The greatest vision of any black man is to leave something in the earth that speaks hundreds of years after his soul has ascended back into the eternal hands of time. What then is the cost to bear for having a building bear your name 50 years after you have left planet earth? The black man is at a crossroads with his faith. On one end he wants to set the world on fire and become this great giant to the nations; and on the other end he fights with the sin of his forefathers.

These imbalances place his head and heart at a very vulnerable place. For those of you seeking to navigate this world and make the most of your gifts and talents; you must ground and pound. “Ground and pound” as it were originally conceived referred to a specific strategy in an MMA fight, where you pound your opponent to the mat with strikes once he’s there. The ultimate aim to get your opponent to tap out. Why is this so important because if you don’t your opponent will just keep coming and coming after you.

Are you build FORD tough? How long can you stay in the fight without giving up? How long can you sit in failure until the breakthrough comes at your door? Many of you has never been trained in the art of mental persuasion. Can you persuade your mind to think about wealth while you sit in a pool of poverty? Some of the ways over the last 10 years that I have learned about being rich is just now beginning to measure up for my life. I figured, I could read a few get rich books and my world would be changed forever.

Yes, my world changed forever but I forgot about a few things called patience, faith. It doesn’t take faith to start a business, buy a house, get a college degree, travel the world, raise children, buy a car, and live your best life; if everything always goes well and you like by thousands of people. The illusion for many black men is that we need to grow up fast and fit into a protracted stance about what it looks like to be doing good in our lives.

Having a nice apartment, a car, a couple thousands of dollars in the bank, a nice girlfriend and a few good homies to drink is an illusion in your 20’s. I wish someone slapped me out of that comfortable stupor. From the ages 15-25 the black man needs to be in work mode. You need a series “Ground and Pound” game in that 10-year stretch. It’s easy for me to say that now because of the things I am fighting through in my last 30’s.

I will be 40 years of age in a few days, and I can tell you that all is well and unfolding as it should. Trust me bro it sucks to keep having these roadblocks thrown at you while you are floating on a sea of mass confusion. It takes time to figure this life out. You are on the legacy path of a stone-cold hustler. You got to make it happen. If you seek just to survive that is half the battle. Too many of our young black men are exiting the game before the 3rd and 4th quarter.

In my last decade of living between the ages of 30-40, I learned to never give up. You will learn this as well if you want to do something in your family that has never been done before. Hell will visit your door just to test and see if you are worthy of that thing, you want most out of life. What do you want? Are you willing to “Ground & Pound? The haters? Negativity? Fear? Poverty Thoughts? Bad Company? When you think of a Jay’z we only see things that we were allowed to see about his ambition and levels of success. What about all of those loses, setbacks, betrayals, etc.

How much do you think Jay’z has been personally that the world may never know? And yet, we know him of a stone=cold hustler. Remember, the better you navigate those hard-pressed problems in your life the more you will learn how to dance in the fire and not get consumed. The More you learn about the life of a Stone-cold hustler the better.

Hustlers are artists with the flare for the unknown. They are ambitious and take tons of risks. They are mavericks of the industry and will take no for an answer. Tested under the most extremes of pressure they rise to the top and blaze trails for others to follow. In my estimation a tough mind and a tinder heart make you a stone-cold hustler. In Matthew 10:6 (KJV) we read Behold I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves; be ye therefore wise as serpents and harmless as doves”. The balance is about not being so detached from the process of fatherhood, and your role a community developer for your people.

Never let the external forces come in and move you off course. All hell can be breaking loose but don’t budge. Trust your intuition but balance the narrative that you will not give into the pressure. You are being tested and your soul needs these personal crises in order to change the mind.  Reframe your narrative and keep working those mental muscles. The isolation will make you great if you know how to appreciate it in the times of your greatest need.
